Phobias and Hypnotherapy- Why Hypnotherapy Helps

Halloween is a scary time of year, but phobias are no laughing matter. Hypnotherapy can help with overcoming phobias. In fact, our new Ultimate Level Hypnotherapist Jan specializes in phobia hypnosis!

Irrational fear, or a phobia, can be very common. They can also range in severity. A phobia is defined as an irrational fear of something that can cause little to no harm.

A specific fear and social phobia will begin early in life and follow into adulthood. Specific fears represent a fear of a situation or object rather than fear itself. Phobias can result for many reasons. The fear can be passed down in the family or as a result of a scary time in ones life.

Even though you may understand that the fear is irrational it can become unable to control.

Irrational fear can cause anxiety. It can also cause headaches, sweating, trembling, and trouble with speaking.

A phobia will lie in our deep mind which is why hypnosis as a therapy can be so useful. It will be able to get to the root of the phobia and will help people react to their phobia in a calm manner within their inner mind. Phobias are irrational in nature. As a result, this makes them easier to overcome.

Hypnosis can also help with relaxation. It will help form new habits of calming and peace.

If you have a phobia and want to rid it from your life DHT is the place to go. You can book with Jan by calling our front desk at (905) 535-3330!

Cold and Flu Fighting Essential Oils- The Super Four

As we enter into colder months we also have to accept that cold and flu season is upon us. At DHT we like to promote natural aids to help with cold and flu symptoms. Something we use quite often in our clinic is essential oils.

You can see our Young Living Products featured in the front entrance of the clinic.

There are four common oils that we use to help with these symptoms!

Peppermint- This scent helps to clear lung and sinus build up. It reduces fever and helps to destroy bacteria and viruses. This scent can also help with nausea, dizziness, headaches and migraines. Most effectively used in a diffuser.

Eucalyptus- This scent aids in treating a variety of respiratory conditions including cough and cold, sinus congestion, runny nose, sore throat and bronchitis. As a result, it works as a natural anti-inflammatory and decongestant. This scent is most effective in a diffuser.

Lavender- This scent helps with relieving pain, alleviating headaches and improving sleep patterns. Lavender has a natural calming effect. A small amount of lavender essential oil can be combined with a carrier oil (coconut, avocado, olive oil). It can then be rubbed into your temples to help alleviate headaches. To improve your sleep and reduce disturbances during the night, try diffusing it before bed.

Frankincense- Helps with asthma, bronchitis and extreme coughing. It helps to break down mucus deposits within the respiratory tract and sinuses. As a result, it breaks down congestion. Furthermore, place a few drops into your diffuser and use deep belly breathing to help the oil work.

We hope that these tips on essential oils helped fight off your cold and flu symptoms.

Finally, if your symptoms seem to be lingering call the clinic or visit our website to book an appointment with one of our many great therapists.

They have some manual techniques that work wonders for relieving congestion, headaches, cough and runny nose!

Fertility at Dynamic Health Therapy

Infertility is a disease that affects many Canadians each and every day.  Many women look to western medicine as the only option if they want to increase their chances of conceiving, but did you know that Dynamic Health Therapy offers a multi faceted program to increase your chances of conceiving naturally or to work along side IUI or IVF to give you the best possible outcome?  We are so passionate about our program that we also train therapists Canada wide on the techniques we use, the success rates we have, and the unique approach we have to this very sensitive subject.

Break the silence…I am 1 in 4

October is infant and pregnancy loss awareness month  Miscarriage affects 1 in 4 women.  As someone who has experienced the pain of losing a pregnancy first hand, I connect with many of the women in our program.  It’s a pain that never fully heals, and a fear that often lingers in future pregnancies.  Working with women on grieving their loss, on regaining the confidence in their bodies, and reconnecting with their partners is a piece of the program at DHT.   Let’s all take a minute to remember those babies held in our hearts forever, but absent from our arms.  To all the mommies of angels, you are strong, you are worthy, you will get your rainbows.  xoxo AdrianneUnknown-2

Diastasis Recti- Information

Have you even heard of the condition Diastasis Recti? To explain, this is where the abdominal or six pack muscles will begin stretching or splitting down the middle, most common during pregnancy. Don’t worry! This condition is more common than you think; according to research, affecting 100% of women during their pregnancy, at least by week 35. This concept is actually completely understandable when you think of how big the baby growing inside of us is. Even though this condition is normal, if not addressed postpartum, it can lead to musculoskeletal issues down the line. Our abdomen plays a role in stability and balance, movement, breathing and continence. If our abdominal wall is injured or stretched it can lead to things such as poor posture, low back and pelvic pain, breathing and incontinence issues, just to name a few.

Here are some important things to know:

DURING PREGNANCY- Don’t put your body at risk by making the diastasis worse. Sometimes abdominal crunches or curls can do just this. Talk to your health care practitioner about this kind of exercise regimen as you progress throughout your pregnancy.

POSTPARTUM- Around 6-12 weeks consult a physiotherapist who can assess and measure the abdominal separation. If the separation is greater than 1.5 mm they will often prescribe SAFE exercises to help the return of the abdominal wall. Often time’s women will continue their abdominal crunches to regain their pre-pregnancy shape but it could have the opposite effect. Doing this can result in Coning which will indicate an underlying weakness in the tissue and fascia. The best thing to do is to consult a physiotherapist who can accurately assess your musculature to help in returning you to your pre-pregnancy routine safely.

Have you been living with pain? Shockwave Therapy is the answer you have been looking for! – Keswick Therapy

dht-shockwavetherapybanner-final

How does it work?

Shockwave Therapy uses high amplitude pulses of mechanical energy (termed “shockwave”) to treat a growing number of tendon, joint and muscle conditions.

The Shockwave machine stimulates the growth of new blood vessels and nerve cells.  Nerves undergo micro trauma and this leads to inflammatory processes associates with removing damaged tissue stimulating healing.

Have you been Living in Pain?

Shockwave Therapy uses ground breaking technology to treat and often eliminate many orthopaedic, urology, and cardiology conditions.

If you are living with pain that you have been unable to find relief from with traditional manual therapies, Shockwave Therapy is the answer you are looking for.

Get relief in just ONE treatment, and often see complete healing within a few short sessions!

Shockwave Therapy is non-invasive, without side effects and promotes long term healing within a few short sessions!

What does shockwave therapy treat?

Get fast relief from many chronic pain conditions:

  • Calcifications
  • Heel Spurs, Heel Pain, Plantar Fasciitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Jumpers Knee
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Tendinitis
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Hip Pain
  • Revascularization of feet (for diabetes)

And so much more…….

The Benefits of Shockwave Therapy:

Radial Pressure waves offer a non invasive treatment solution for long term insertion and soft tissue pathologies.  Local Treatment of the affected area will enhance and reset the healing patter.

Pain Reduction:  You will experience a reduction of pain due to the gate Control Theory.  Intensive pulses from the transmitter into the tissue, create a strong nociceptor activation which affects interneurons that transmit pain signals.

Increased Metabolism:   Shockwaves influence the tissue on a cellular level.  The Chemical environment of the cells is affected by free radicals promoting the release of pain and inflammatory inhibiting substances.

Revascularisation: Repeated shockwaves to the affected area create a revascularisation effect, with the new blood flow in the area promoting tissue healing and regeneration.

Reduced muscle tone:  The “Vicious Circle”, as well as the strong pathological association between pain and muscle tone, will be broken ad lead to restoring a normalized muscular tone.

Keep Calm

What is an Osteopath you might ask, and how could it help you?

Osteopathy provides a gentle way of relieving pain and stiffness without any need for medication and invasive treatments like surgery. The only person who cannot benefit from osteopathy is the dead one!

The treatment option has many benefits compared with the other treatment options. Osteopath practitioners identify, assess, and treat the body rhythm and structures using gentle hands on approach. The basic technique is known as osteopathic palpation. Manual practitioners spend many years developing the gentle touch technique which makes the treatment option different from the others.

The most obvious osteopathy benefit is its ability to treat the pain you experience in a way which considers you as a person and your body. You can effectively use osteopathy to reduce and to cure pain which you experience in different parts of your body. You might walk into an osteopathic clinic with a hurting back and walk out experiencing no pain.

Minimizing/relieving pain resulting from chronic illness

If you are a person suffering a chronic illness such as arthritis, asthma, and irritable bowel syndrome, you can highly benefit from osteopathic treatments. Your osteopath can treat you in a way that alleviates all the symptoms even when they cannot cure the disease itself. This is a great advantage especially if the disease causes you to have many symptoms that can prevent you from proceeding with your day to day activities or hobbies. And you shouldn’t allow the disease to affect the quality of your life.

Reoccurring pain

After recovering from an acute condition or an injury, you can rely on osteopathy to prevent the disease re-occurrence. For instance, if you have just recovered from a period knee pain, an osteopath can work to strengthen all the structures supporting your knees and retaining the mobility in your joints. This prevents you from injuring your knees in a similar manner. Moreover, if you have never experienced any injury, but have a hobby or a lifestyle which puts you on a risk, then you can rely on osteopathy to reduce the injury occurrence. If you are a person who drives for longer periods of time an osteopath can treat you in a way that will prevent you from developing back pain.

Relaxation/Stress Relief

Osteopathy provides you with more benefits since it offers you an opportunity to think about your body and yourself. In fact, you will find all your consultations extremely relaxing. Osteopathy is also widely known for reducing stress levels by increasing your body systems efficiency. The body systems include blood flow, the immune system, and the nerve supply.

Call Dynamic Health Therapy today and schedule an appointment with one of our Osteopath’s, you wont regret it.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy | Dynamic Health Therapy

Dynamic Health Therapy prides itself in being the only clinic in the Keswick/Georgina area offering the services of a pelvic floor physiotherapist. Many people may feel uncomfortable speaking about pelvic health and many people may not recognize what normal and abnormal pelvic health is. Women and men, as they age or go through life stages, are told that incontinence and pelvic dysfunction is normal. This false information may discourage people from seeking help regarding pelvic dysfunctions. Pelvic pain and incontinence are not normal and these issues can be rehabilitated with the use of pelvic floor therapy.

Pelvic dysfunctions, either pain or incontinence, can be caused by one of two things. The pelvis, more specifically the pelvic bone and sacrum, are surrounded by muscles known as the pelvic floor muscles. These muscles attach to the front, back and sides of our pelvis while also supporting the bladder, uterus, prostate and rectum. In women, these muscles also wrap around the urethra, rectum and vagina. These muscles play an integral part in pelvic health. They must be able to relax to allow for urination, bowel movements and sexual intercourse (for women) and they must be able to contract to maintain continence (avoid leaking throughout the day).

There are two types of muscle conditions that will cause pelvic pain or incontinence. First, pelvic muscles are weak this is known as Hypotonicity. This condition contributes to stress and urge incontinence along with pelvic organ prolapse. What we must remember is that incontinence or leaking is not apart of aging and can be prevented or fixed. Second, when pelvic muscles are tight this is known as Hypertonicity. This condition contributes to urgency with urination or bowel movements, urge incontinence, pelvic pain, vaginismus, etc.…

Many doctors will suggest a surgical consultation rather than pelvic physiotherapy. However, pelvic floor physiotherapy should be the first line of defense when it comes to pelvic pain or incontinence. Pelvic floor rehabilitation includes the use of an internal and external exam, connective tissue and fascial work along with trigger point release. Techniques are used according to the specific condition and treatment plan.
